Mount Egerton "Jigsaw"
Along with the shop, the school is a major facility which identifies the town, for either to cease to exist will make the town a place where people sleep and many opportunities for interaction will be lost.   Gary White, the School principal, would like for the community to become more involved in the school and for the school to be involved with the community.  Gary has been talking together with his staff about the “Mt. Egerton Jigsaw”, because he sees us as all being part of the same jigsaw and unless we all fit together well we don’t succeed.  How can we achieve this?  Learning taking place beyond the classroom, we need to develop partnerships – the stake holders are parents, students, teachers and the wider community.  If we work together co-operatively, we can gain knowledge and become much more powerful.

We should all be thinking about the following...

  • What is your individual function in Mt. Egerton learning Community jigsaw?
  • How do we view the roles of other people around us in that jigsaw?
  • How do we use the power we have as an individual and as a member of a community group within the jigsaw?
  • What are our shared visions and goals and how do we achieve them?
  • What change if any would need to take place in the world for it to look like you would like it to be?

School Purpose Statment
"Providing a friendly and caring learning environment that engages students to work toward achieving their personal best in an atmosphere of mutual respect and co-operation, and assisting them to become valued members of the community”.

Together with a statement of purpose the school also adopted a range of school values, these are Learning, Respect, Commitment, Honesty, Trustworthiness and Perseverance, which are qualities the school wants to see in it’s students.  The School has undertaken to teaching the students what exactly what these values mean and how you demonstrate them in the community.  Staff has also worked on showing these values to each other as well.
